The RISKPOINT project aims to develop a complete risk assessment methodology/tool that can be used to identify and prioritise the clean up and management of point sources of contamination to groundwater and surface water resources, as stipulated by the EU Water Framework Directive. The project is comprised of five work packages that address the key aspects of the problem. New geophysical methods will be developed to characterise the geology of the ground water/surface water interface. New methods will be devised to investigate the impact of point source contamination on surface water ecosystems and on drinking water interests. The determinant biogeochemical processes that act and may retard contaminants at the groundwater/surface water interface will be assessed. State of the art modelling tools that couple ecological impacts to water quality and hydrology will be constructed. RISKPOINT provides an interdisciplinary platform, uniting strong Danish research expertise (DTU Environment, AU and DMU-AU) with leading consultants, international researchers, water supply companies and environmental authorities. Project partners include DHI, Orbicon, Copenhagen Energy and the Danish Ministry for the Environment - Environment Centre Roskilde (contact details can be found under "Links"). This webpage will provide you with information about the project, and its partners and collaborators. Philip J.
